Kos, whose name is glossed 'Sardine', is the companion of Abob in the myths of the eastern Torres Strait. Born with him on Mer, Kos shares in the pair's journey through the islands toward New Guinea, in the course of which the two heroes shaped the seascape and distributed custom and practical knowledge among the communities they passed. The paired travels of Kos and Abob were among the eastern folk-tales set down by the Cambridge Anthropological Expedition.
