The legendary Oghuz/Kazakh shaman-bard and patron of musicians, traditionally of the Syr Darya in the 8th-9th century: inventor of the kobyz fiddle and archetypal baqsı whose songs hold death at bay. Sage-narrator framing the Book of Dede Korkut, his mausoleum stands near Kyzylorda in the Kazakh steppe.
