Yer-Sub

Tengrist · deity · primordial · deity

The sacred 'Holy Earth-Water' (ıduq Yer-Sub) of the Orkhon inscriptions, ranked immediately below Tengri among the powers who ordain Turkic victory and survival. A composite earth-and-water numen — at once the single Holy Land-and-Water and the plurality of local mountain, spring and grove spirits — surviving in the Kazakh and Kyrgyz Jer-Suu and the Altai cult of the land-and-water masters.
