Juziñamui

Uitoto · deity · Uitoto traditional religion; continuing · deity

Juziñamui is the supreme deity of Uitoto religion, understood as another name of the primordial Father and, in many tellings, identified with Nainuema. He is the universal consciousness that creates by visualizing what is possible and by uttering the Word (rafue), the ordering breath at the root of ritual speech, song, and dance. He is associated with the celestial and solar order and acts as guarantor and punisher of cosmic law. In the deeds of Buinaima he is the Supreme God whom the water being invokes, and in fire-origin narratives he figures among the beings who once held fire before it was brought to humankind.
