Bilindi Yaka

Vedda · numen · Vedda traditional religion; continuing · numen

Bilindi Yaka is the constant companion of Kande Yaka in the invocations for game. Vedda narrative makes him the younger brother of the hunter Kande Wanniya: while their parents were away hunting, the infant Bilindi cried without ceasing, and Kande, unable to quiet him, threw the child to the ground and killed him, so that the two brothers became yaku together. At some settlements the pair were invoked without the fraternal legend being remembered, Kande Yaka simply being reckoned greater than all other yaku.
