Bele, honoured with the praise-title Bele-la-Mambo, is the son and immediate successor of the founder-king Dimbanyika. His reign is remembered chiefly for its violent end: he was murdered by his own prime minister, Tshishonga, who then set Bele's younger brother Dyambeu on the throne in his place. In the dynastic tradition of the Singo his killing marks the first of the succession struggles that shadowed the royal house.
