Lungkarda is the Centralian blue-tongue lizard ancestor of the Fire Country Dreaming (Warlukurlangu), an old man of the Jampijinpa subsection who lived on a hill with his two Jangala sons. Feigning blindness, he sent the boys out to hunt while he secretly ate his own game. When they returned with a kangaroo that was, unknown to them, sacred to him, he resolved to punish them: he put his firestick to the ground and sent a vast bushfire after them, hurling them through the air. Each time they beat out the flames his magic revived the fire from his lizard burrow, until at Wayililinypa the boys were overcome and killed. The sites of the chase, Warlukurlangu, Kirrkirrmanu, Marnimarnu and Wayililinypa, remain the sacred geography of the Dreaming and give their name to the Warlukurlangu Artists of Yuendumu.
