Attawanadi

Ye'kuana · deity · Ye'kuana traditional religion; continuing · deity

Attawanadi is the third of Wanadi's spirit-doubles (damodede) and the one most venerated by the Ye'kuana, the avatar closest to human beings. After the failures of the earlier creations, Attawanadi resolves to make 'a good earth for a new humanity' and travels across the land founding the villages and forming the distinct peoples the Ye'kuana know. His name is bound to the atta, the round communal house that the Ye'kuana understand as an image of the cosmos. Throughout his work he contends with Odosha, whose corruptions repeatedly spoil the world he is building.
