Erinle
Yoruba · deity · mythic · deity
Erinle went into the ground and came out as water. The pattern is standard in this tradition and worth stating plainly: a number of the orisha were people, and the moment of their deification is usually a disappearance into a specific place — Oshun into her river, Erinle into his, Shango into the earth at Koso. You can go and look at the result. The Erinle river runs into the Osun, which is why the two are spoken of together.
