Segep

Yurok · numen · Yurok traditional religion; continuing · numen

Segep, Coyote, is the animal-person trickster of Yurok oral literature. Greedy, lustful, and heedless, he blunders through a string of escapades in which his own schemes rebound upon him, and in some tales his actions inadvertently fix features of the world. He belongs to the same order of first-age beings as the woge, and his stories carry both comedy and cautionary force.
