Amm Embrere

Zaghawa · numen · Zaghawa traditional religion; continuing · numen

Amm Embrere is a named ogress of the Zaghawa oral-tale repertoire recorded by Marie-Jose and Joseph Tubiana. As a female member of the corpus's company of ogres and horned bush-spirits, her appetite is turned upon children, and her stories share the repertoire's governing pattern in which the weak survive the devourer through wit rather than strength.
