Ngara is remembered as the last paramount ruler of the Abakundo, the dynasty said to have held sway before the rise of the Avongara. In the Zande origin narrative he is challenged, defeated and bound by Basanginonga, whose victory ends the old order and gives the new ruling clan both its ascendancy and its name, Avongara, 'those who bound Ngara'.
