Zapotec ⟨Pitào Pèeze⟩, 'god of omens'. The deity of auguries, fate and fortune to whom diviners referred the signs and dreams they read. Carefully distinguished from the death-god Pitao Bezelao/Pezeelao (already zapotec_pitao_bezelao) and from the wealth/merchant god Pitao Paa. Pitao Xicala (dreams) is reckoned an aspect of him. SOLITARY: no genealogy or consort is recorded for Pitao Peeze; the only relationship attested is the aspect-tie of Pitao Xicala (dreams) to him, captured on zapotec_pitao_xicala (Lind 2015; Whitecotton 1977).
