Kaveh

The apron on the spear becomes the Derafsh Kaviani, the royal standard of Iran through the Sasanian period, and the story is the single best-known political image the epic produced. He is a commoner, which in a corpus of this kind is worth saying: the registry's Iranian holdings were kings, heroes and their fathers, and the one figure in the cycle who is none of those was the one it did not have.
