Ixtlilton

Aztec/Mexica · deity · cosmogonic · deity

Ixtlilton is the doctor in a family of entertainers, which in Mexica terms is not a change of subject: he is god of dancing and of medicine at once, and his cure is a dark water — the black his name refers to — kept in jars at his shrine and given to children who would not stop crying or would not eat. Between the three brothers they cover pleasure, the price of pleasure, and the remedy, which is a tidier account of a night out than most pantheons manage.
