Patecatl

Patecatl is the pharmacist. The registry had Mayahuel, who is the maguey plant, and not the god who worked out what to do with its sap — which in this pantheon is a medical question rather than a culinary one: his name is built on pahtli, 'medicine', he is credited with peyote as well, and his title is lord of the *root* of pulque, the additive that starts the ferment. Between them he and Mayahuel produced four hundred children, the Centzon Totochtin, who are the four hundred rabbits — Nahuatl's way of saying that there are exactly as many kinds of drunk as there are drunks.
