Supreme Elder God

Bodo (Boro/Kachari) supreme creator, classed as deity. 'Bwrai' = elder/old man; also called Sibrai or Jiu/Siu Bwrai ('father of life/soul'). Sidney Endle's 'The Kacharis' (1911) is the foundational colonial ethnography of Kachari religion. The sijou cactus and its eighteen-pair bamboo altar are the only attested material focus of worship, recorded here as material culture.
