Batara Lattuq, Second Ruler of Luwuq
Bugis · deity · Bugis traditional religion; continuing · deity
Batara Lattuq, whose personal name is La Tiuleng, is the son of Batara Guru, the first man to descend from heaven, and of We Nyiliq Timoq, raised from the Underworld. He succeeds his father as the second divine sovereign of Luwuq, the senior kingdom of the Bugis. His marriage produces the celebrated twins Sawerigading and We Tenriabeng, whose forbidden mutual attraction and subsequent separate destinies form the dramatic heart of the Sureq Galigo. Through Sawerigading he is grandfather of the epic's title-figure, I La Galigo.
