We Nyiliq Timoq is the divine princess of the Underworld in the Bugis La Galigo cycle, the eldest daughter of the rulers of Pérétiwi — the undersea lower world also called Boriq Liu. When Patotoqe sends his son Batara Guru down from the sky to the empty land of Luwuq, a consort is sought for him in the depths, and We Nyiliq Timoq rises from beneath the sea to become his bride; she is also reckoned his cross-cousin within the divine kindred. Her ascent from below mirrors Batara Guru's descent from above, so that their marriage unites the Upperworld and the Underworld in the Middleworld of humankind. From this union descends Batara Lattuq, and in turn the hero Sawerigading and his twin We Tenriabeng, making her one of the apical ancestresses of the epic's human world.
