Ligoapup is the primordial creatrix and ancestress of the Chuukic cosmogony shared across the central Carolines. Daughter of the great sky god and sister of Lugeilang, she is the female principle from whom land and the first generations of beings proceed. Her name carries the Chuukic feminine prefix li-. Sources vary between the several outer islands over her exact role, some casting her as the mother of the divine and human lines, others more nearly as the earth itself.
