Amaunet

Egyptian · deity · primordial · deity

Amaunet is the half of the pair that did not get promoted. Amun and Amaunet are 'the hidden', one of the four qualities the Ogdoad names, and for as long as the Hermopolitan system was the account of creation they were equals. Then Amun went to Thebes, became the chief god of an empire, acquired Mut as consort and Khonsu as son, and Amaunet stayed where she was. She is still there in the Karnak material, doing almost nothing. The registry carried him and not her, which is the Ogdoad missing a limb.
