Mu (Even Му/Мо; in full mö muranni / mu muranni, 'master of the water') is the spirit-master of the water in Even religion — the owner of the rivers and lakes of the middle world. He stands with the earth-master Töör and the fire-master Tog as one of the spirit-masters (muranni) of the inhabited middle world. The water-master is propitiated directly in everyday ritual: the Even pour milk into the water and speak to its master respectfully before crossing or fishing, a practice recorded by Lebedev and Tsintsius among the Even blessing-incantations, where the water stands alongside the sun, moon and earth as a power to be honoured.
