Töör (spirit-master of the earth)

Even · deity · Even traditional religion; continuing · deity

Töör (Even Тоор, also Төөр; in full töör muranni / töör mö(h)ynni, 'master of the earth') is the spirit-master of the earth in Even religion. He is one of the spirit-masters (muranni) of the middle world — the abode of the living — alongside the master of the water (Mu) and the master of fire (Tog). The spirit-masters of the natural domains, mediated by the shaman, are the working core of Even religious life: the earth-master is glorified and beseeched in the blessing-incantations (the verb hirgéchén denoting this act of honouring and petition), and appeals to the Earth, together with the Sun and Moon, open the hunting and herding rites recorded by Lebedev and Tsintsius.
