Mortal king of Ithaca, son of Arcesius and father of Odysseus by Anticlea. An Argonaut in his youth, he retired in age to his farm, where he grieved through Odysseus long absence; restored to vigour by Athena, he killed Eupeithes in the last fight of the Odyssey. Named in the prose of greek_odysseus as his father, king of Ithaca.
