Bhagiratha

His name is a common noun in modern Indian languages — bhagirath prayatna, a Bhagiratha-effort, means an undertaking of superhuman persistence — which is a good measure of how large a figure the corpus was missing. The Ganges is called Bhagirathi after him along her upper course.
