Bugan is the great female name of the Ifugao mythic corpus. In the deluge myth she and her brother Wigan alone survive the flood and become the ancestors of the Ifugao; in other traditions Bugan appears as the wife of the creator Maknongan, and in the tale of Bugan and Kinggauan as a goddess who married a mortal man. She is also said to have descended to earth to teach people the use of the forces of air and water.
