Orea is the hero's mother and the human link between Ozidi and his sorceress grandmother Oreame. Pregnant when her husband is killed, she retreats to Oreame's town and there gives birth to the boy who will avenge his father. During the visitation of Engarando the Smallpox King she calls on Tamara, the Ijaw supreme deity, to shield her son, and the plague-spirit departs Orua.
