Mortal queen of Dál nAraide; wife of King Fíachna mac Báetáin (historical, d. c. 626 CE); mother of Mongán mac Fíachnai by Manannán mac Lir under the Compert Mongáin tradition. Her name means "fair lady" or "noble queen" (cáin "fair" + tigern "lord/lady"). The variant of the conception narrative in which she is the conscious negotiator (rather than deceived) presents her as actively choosing the bargain to save her husband.
