Hoderi
Japanese · deity · kamiyo · deity
The Japanese version of the quarrelling-brothers motif, and the loser is the elder, the fisherman, and the ancestor claimed by the Hayato of southern Kyushu — a people the Yamato court spent centuries subduing. A myth in which the sea-people's ancestor is forced to submit to the mountain-people's and perform a dance of surrender is not hard to read politically, and the record says so.
