The scroll is said to record the lifespan of every living thing, which makes the wisdom of the world and the register of deaths the same document — an idea this programme met in the same week in the Chinese Book of Life kept by Dongyue Dadi's ministry, and the connection is not a coincidence: both come from the same Daoist bureaucracy of fate.
