Topogh

Kalenjin · deity · primordial · deity

Topogh is the personified evening star (Venus at dusk) in Pokot (Suk) mythology, named as the firstborn daughter of the creator Tororut and his consort Seta. She belongs to the family of benevolent sky-deities, sister to Arawa the moon and Ilat the rain, and is grouped with her mother Seta and the Kokel among the star-powers of the Suk heaven. Her prominence as a named female star-deity, alongside the Pleiades-goddess Seta, distinguishes the northern Pokot pantheon from the largely solar and monotheistic religion of the southern Kalenjin.
