Wei, the Sun, stands at the head of Macuxi mythical genealogy. Koch-Grünberg's circum-Roraima corpus opens with the Sun's dealings with the water-spirit woman and the birth of the hero brothers, and later Macuxi ethnography (Farage 1991; Santilli 2001) records that the Macuxi consider themselves descendants of the Sun's children. Wei also figures in his own narrative episodes, such as his capture of the water maiden and his conflicts with the beings of the dark.
