Kientibakori is the dark antagonist of Matsigenka cosmogony, the counter-creator set against Tasorintsi. When the two beings vied to fill the world, Kientibakori could bring forth only what is harmful: he is the father and chief of the kamagarini, the little devils he breathes out into the forest, and the maker of poisonous plants, biting insects, and the deformed or useless things of the world. He dwells in the lower, downriver reaches of the cosmos with his monstrous progeny and his demonic entourage. Where Tasorintsi's creatures are pure and life-giving, Kientibakori's are agents of sickness, sorcery, and death, and much of Matsigenka shamanic practice is concerned with holding his creatures at bay.
