Kishar
Mesopotamian · deity · primordial · deity
Kishar is the earth entire, as Anshar is heaven entire — a totality rather than a place, which is what distinguishes her from the mother-goddesses who actually get worshipped. She can be read as an earth-mother figure, but the pair are essentially confined to Enuma Elish and have almost no cult. Her importance is genealogical: she and Anshar produce Anu, and everything that matters descends from there.
