Lahamu
Mesopotamian · deity · primordial · deity
Lahamu is half of a pair the registry was carrying in half. Lahmu was already here; she was not. In Enuma Elish the two of them are the first thing born from the mingling of Apsu's fresh water and Tiamat's salt, and they are usually read as the powers in silt — the matter that forms where the two waters meet. From them come Anshar and Kishar, and from those two, Anu. She has no myth of her own; her whole function is to stand at the second rung of a ladder.
