His parentage is contested in modern Mixtec studies (Caso reads him as son of Lady 6 Lizard and Lord 11 Wind, surviving the 1101 conquest as a young child; Pohl reads him as brother-in-law via a different familial connection). The codex tradition itself does not specify his parentage with full clarity; the registry treats him as mortal with empty parentIds per the strict-pass rule. His sacrificial-execution of 8 Deer at Mountain-of-Death is one of the most-graphically-depicted scenes in the Codex Zouche-Nuttall (page 81). The post-8-Deer political arrangements in the Mixteca-Alta involved both 4 Wind's coalition and 8 Deer's surviving sons, and produced the dynastic structure that subsequent Mixtec polities elaborated through the late postclassic and into the colonial period.
