Raja Sangen is one of the three primeval brothers of Ngaju cosmology and the ancestor of the sangen, the deathless heroic beings of the upper regions. Unlike his brother Raja Bunu, who accepted mortality and fathered humankind, Raja Sangen refused the fatal portion and remained immortal. The sangen and the sangiang together make up the population of the heavenly world into which the souls of the tiwah dead are received.
