Raja Sangiang is a primeval brother of Ngaju cosmology, reckoned the ancestor of the sangiang, the heavenly spirit-beings who mediate between gods and living people and who descend, invoked, into the chants of the priests. He kept the immortality that his brother Raja Bunu forfeited. Because 'sangiang' is also the general Ngaju word for such heavenly beings, sources differ on whether Raja Sangiang is a distinct personal ancestor or the eponymous personification of the class.
