Helgi Hundingsbane

Norse · scion · mythic prehistoric · scion

Son of Sigmund by Borghild and half-brother of Sigurd. The hero of the two Helgi-lays of the Poetic Edda: slayer of Hunding, beloved of the valkyrie Sigrún, and — uniquely in the corpus — a dead hero who rides back from the grave to his mourning bride, a haunting attached to the belief that the lovers were reborn.
