Sigurðr Fáfnisbani, the supreme hero of the North and the Siegfried of continental legend. Posthumous son of Sigmund; reforged his father's sword Gram, slew the dragon Fáfnir, took the cursed hoard and the ring Andvaranaut, gained the speech of birds from the dragon's blood, and woke the valkyrie Brynhildr. His entanglement with the Gjúkungs and Brynhildr brings about his murder and the curse's spread through the Niflung line.
