Kvasir

Norse · deity · primordial · deity

Norse poetry has a physical origin and this is it: a person made out of a peace treaty, murdered by two dwarfs for no reason the sources give, and fermented. Every kenning for poetry in the skaldic corpus — Kvasir's blood, the dwarfs' drink, Odin's theft — refers back to this, which makes him the most cited figure in Old Norse verse and one the registry did not hold.
