Satana

Ossetian · quartigod · classical nart · quartigod

The foundational Nart matriarch; sister-wife of Uryzmæg; foster-mother of Soslan; presider over the Nart round-table feasts where the Nartæmonggæ mead-cup judges valor. Quartigod by registry math (Akhsartæg mortal + Dzerassae demigod, with posthumous-tomb-birth from Dzerassae after both parents' deaths). The tomb-birth origin is the foundational matriarchal-cosmogonic episode of the Nart cycle, structurally completing the Akhsartæg-Dzerassae cosmogonic-pair through her posthumous emergence. The Adyghe Setenaye and other Northwest Caucasian Nart-traditions preserve cognate figures, reflecting the shared pan-Caucasian Nart-saga substrate. Her conception of Soslan via the stone-impregnation episode is foundational for the Soslan-cycle but excludes Soslan from this registry per strict-pass (animated-stone conception = spirit-class). Satana's functional role across the Nart cycle is the matriarchal-counselor figure: she advises Uryzmæg on diplomacy with rival clans, foster-mothers heroes, conducts household-and-feast ritual, and presides as judge of valor at the round-table feasts via the Nartæmonggæ.
