Hasan, the elder son of Ali and Fatima, completes the Panjtan-i pok together with his brother Husayn. In the Pamiri house their two pillars are set close together to signify the bond between them, and the pillar that bears Hasan's name is the post of family and private prayer, the place of honour reserved for the khalifa or an honoured guest. Through him and his brother the sacred five of Pamiri devotion are bound into a single household mirrored in the timbers of every traditional dwelling.
