Husayn, the younger son of Ali and Fatima and the martyr whose death at Karbala is mourned across the Shia world, is the fifth of the Panjtan-i pok in Pamiri devotion. In the traditional house his pillar stands joined to that of his brother Hasan, the two set together to express their closeness, and with them the sacred five are made complete. As the pillars carry the holy family, so an older layer of meaning carries the guardian yazatas of earth and fire, and the dwelling becomes at once a home and an image of the ordered cosmos.
