Maori ancestress, wife of Hema and mother of the heroes Tawhaki and Karihi. In some tribal recensions Hema marries Rawhita-i-te-rangi instead; the dominant Grey recension names Urutonga, whom the registry Hema entry presupposes as the mother of Tawhaki and Karihi.
