Baabenga is the foremost goddess of the district deities and the sister of Tehu'aingabenga. Belonging to the same benevolent class of gods closest to humankind, she was particularly connected with women, with fertility and childbirth, and with the welfare of the household. Like her brother she was descended from the sky-god couple and received offerings in the lineage cult, where the district deities were addressed for the ordinary goods of life.
