Sikingimoemoe
Rennell & Bellona · deity · Rennell & Bellona traditional religion; continuing · deity
Sikingimoemoe is the foremost of the sky goddesses, the consort of Tehainga'atua. Ranked among the original sky deities, she shared in the ownership of land and weather and in the benevolent giving of fertility and abundance. In the recorded theogonies the district deities who watched over human affairs, above all Tehu'aingabenga and his sister Baabenga, are traced from the sky-god couple. Sources differ on the finer points of her genealogy, some reckoning her the sister as well as the wife of the sky god, a pairing common among the original gods.
