Bughe

Shambaa · mortal · Shambaa traditional religion; continuing · mortal

Bughe is the son and successor of the founder-hero Mbegha in the traditions of the Kilindi. He is remembered above all as the builder of Vugha, the hilltop capital in the West Usambara that became the political and ritual centre of the Shambaa kingdom. Standing at the head of the settled dynasty, he transmits the sacred kingship and its rain magic from the wandering hunter-founder to the enduring royal line, and through him the succession passes to his son Kinyashi and grandson Kimweri ye Nyumbai.
