Shilluk · deity · mythic prehistoric · deity
Crocodile-river-goddess of the Sobat-and-White-Nile confluence; daughter of the half-man-half-crocodile river-being Dunyel Ju'Okwa; mother of the twin demigods Nyikang and Duwat by the mortal king Okwa. Continues to be revered as a divinity inhabiting the Nile per the contemporary Shilluk tradition. Special annual sacrifices at the start of the rainy season are made in her honor as the most important spiritual force after Juok the creator-god himself.
