Segesta

Sicel · numen · pre Greek Sikel Sicani religion (Greco Roman attested) · numen

Segesta is the city and the nymph at once. In the foundation tradition of Elymian Egesta she bears the founder-hero to the river-god Krimisos, and the town keeps her name — Segesta in Latin, Aigesta or Egesta in Greek. The record is filed under the Sicel key, this registry's key for indigenous Sicilian figures known through Greco-Roman report, with the same caveat as Krimisos: the Elymians were their own people, and a future Elymian tradition should build on these records rather than beside them.
